I''ve been a Pointer Sister fan since the first CD, the "Yes, We Can Can" album. The Break Out album was after star sister, Bonnie Pointer left the group to become the next Diana Ross on Motown records, which never happened. The remaining three sisters, June, Anita and Ruth, tried to redefine themselves, reinvent themself through different styles of music, like the Bruce Springsteen, " Fire", "Happiness" was a disco hit, 2 albums, "Priority" and "Energy", and "I''m So Excited", mostly rock offerings, but which Richard Perry producded "Break Out", they had struck gold. Everything cut could have been a single. I rushed out to purchase my copy, then once the album started to the Planet Records decided to remove "Night Line" off of the "Break Out" LP, and replaced it with "I''m So Excited" to boost sales. So those who have the first release of "Break Out" have "Night Line", but for the others who waited till it was a hit, have I''m So Excited on "Break Out". When I wanted to purchase a second copy, the original couldn''t be found. As for not lose "Night Line", I copied it onto 3 different personal CD''s, my personal favorites featuring each sister, example, the best of Ruth Pointer, with all the songs Ruth sang lead, then Anita, June, you get the point, but all have "Night Line" on it. So I was excited and surprised to see that "Break Out" was re-released with "Night line", the original album plus with remixes, club remixes etc. as a bonus.

This is a must-get CD, if you love the Pointers like I do. Trust me, you will love it.

Now this is how you do a deluxe edition. It''s really all here. Breakout was released twice--the second time round, they replaced the song "Night line" with the newly extended remix of "I''m So Excited", a 1982 song that climbed higher on the charts as a result of its 1984 re-release. For years, "Night Line" became the forgotten Breakout track--until now. You get BOTH versions of the album as well as all the fantastic 12" mixes and even the single edits. Sure, it''s a little odd that numerous songs are repeated in the same album version on both discs, but hey, as long as they don''t leave anything crucial out from this album''s success, I won''t complain. But if I have one regret here--and it''s not the fault of this release--is that the awesome 12" mix of Baby Come and Get It leaves out the totally awesome line "I think I''ll take a bubble bath". WHY??? WHY??????

Far *Exceeded* My Expectations! BBR Does It Again!

I cannot praise Big Break Records (BBR) enough for their exquisite attention to detail and the loving care that they give to their reissues ( Never Can Say Goodbye [Expanded Edition ], Odyssey , Special Things , Hot Together (Expanded) , Contact to name a few) and BREAK OUT DELUXE EXPANDED EDITION 2 CD set from the Pointer Sisters'' monster 1984 hit record is no exception.

When I first heard hints that BBR had BREAK OUT on their list of reissues, I was over-joyed. This was my favorite Pointer Sisters album when I was a pre-teen, literally piquing my interest in pop/r&b/rock music, and I have owned it on cassette, record, and CD. I thought that at most, the reissue would include the original album, plus the 12-inch singles that were previously released on The Pointer Sisters - Greatest Hits . In fact, I would''ve been happy with just a remastered copy and a few extra-tracks!

But Big Break Records went above and beyond what would''ve made us fans happy, and produced a stellar 2-CD set that features not only the 12-inch extended versions of the hit singles like "Jump (For My Love)," "Automatic," "I''m So Excited," and "Neutron Dance," among others, it also includes alternate versions of the songs, and the 1983 release of BREAK OUT, with the song "Nightline," and the 1984 re-release -- the one I had -- that replaced "Nightline" with "I''m So Excited." I didn''t even know there were two different versions of the album.

For those unfamiliar with BREAK OUT or THE POINTER SISTERS, this album was a huge hit for them in the 80s and spawned 4 top ten hits in the USA and garnered them a new generation of fans like myself. Every track on the album was fantastic and the album was solid throughout. It had a dance/electro pop feel (that was very popular in the 80s), almost bordering on new wave, but it never went too far into that 80''s synth sound, and it doesn''t sound dated listening to it today. Each song is likable, whether a ballad (though there are only two of those) or uptempo dance tunes, and that''s really in part to the remarkable talent and sound of Ruth, June, and Anita. And each sister gets to handle lead vocals throughout so there''s a wonderful mix here.

The 2-CD set comes housed in fold out box with album cover art reproduced and a booklet. The booklet has an introduction by famed music producer Richard Perry who produced this album and was responsible for marrying the Pointer Sisters'' halleluiah-church-like vocals with a hard rock beat on their first pairing with 1978''s Energy (not that they needed any help since the Pointers were fully adept to sing almost any type of music from jazz to rock to country to Broadway show tunes to funk). And there''s also extensive liner notes by the associate producer on this reissue, writer Christian John Wikane. Both were written in June 2011, and the booklet contains song credits, discography (chart) positions, and color pictures from the BREAK OUT photo shoot and the covers of the singles from various places. The lyrics aren''t included, but I''m sure you can find them on the net.

Needless to say, the remastering is fabulous and breathes new life into this classic album. The bass is punchy, the treble is clear, and it sounds as though these songs were recorded yesterday. It''s not just louder it''s alive with sound! Even on my computer speakers the sound separation is remarkable, sounding as though I''m in the recording booth with them.

If you''re a fan of the Pointer Sisters then you should definitely pick this one up. There''s enough new stuff here that even if you own the older release of "Break Out" on CD this new BBR version is worth the investment.

And a special shout-out to BREAK OUT''s reissue producer, Wayne A. Dickson! Without whom many of these classics would''ve long been forgotten (but not to us fans).

I had no idea there were two versions of this album, I have the 1984 version, and the 1984 version was remixed and "I''m So Excited" was from a previous album and it replaces an album cut and it fits so perfectly. I was thrilled by the extended remixes too, a couple I had from other compilations but not with this sound quality. This album isn''t just essential Pointer Sisters it''s an essential album of the 80"s. Don''t miss this.

In this age of cheap, tacky, mass-produced pop music, it''s so refreshing to get back to the heart and soul that is the Pointer Sisters'' "Break Out" CD. Every song is a winner; although those ''80s synthesizers are getting to sound kind of dated, the core of the music-- the gutsy talent of the Pointer Sisters themselves-- remains unblemished by time. These three women just sing about life in all its joys and sorrows--the thrill of new love, the grind of work, the wistfulness and pain of relationships gone wrong-- and make it rock with the kind of soul music doesn''t have anymore. The simple truth is, I bought this twenty-year-old CD because the music has stood the test of time. It''s not going away, and we''re better for it.

This reissue exceeded my expectation! I hadn''t heard the 1983 initial album release since I lost my vinyl in a breakup with a girlfriend (long story), so I was really looking forward to that. I was NOT prepared for the crisp sound on the reissue -- that album''s NEVER sounded that good! And it includes extensive liner notes, a new essay by producer Richard Perry about the making of the album, and never-before-published photos of Anita, Ruth, & June''s photo shoot for the iconic "Break Out" album cover. If you can find it, get this! You will be thrilled!

First, let me say that my rating is based on the defects only. Not the excellent content and great attention to detail in the planning of this release.

Unfortunately, the last track(s) on CD 1 and especially CD 2 are either unplayable or inaccessible. I tried both discs on several CD players, from my SONY portable Discman all the way up to my $500 BOSE Wave system, and all my players experienced problems playing these tracks.

My guess is, this is the result of pushing the CDs to their extreme time limitations (Disc 2 runs 79:56!), and while I truly appreciate any label that takes full advantage of the medium, not all pressing plants are capable of delivering error-free discs at this capacity.

I hope Big Break Records finds a way correct this problem. Because otherwise, this set would be flawless.

UPDATE (Feb. 17, 2013):
After several failed attempts, Big Break Records finally managed to send me a set of corrected discs. These now play perfectly, and therefore, I must adjust my review to say "Absolutely Perfect!" 5-Stars! Great job BBR!

A pretty superb album, this ... piling up 5 disco classics on the A side, one after the other; and then Dance Electric is better than Neutron Dance, so the brilliance continues. Baby Come And Get It is also up there with the best. The monster tracks speak for themselves: Jump, one of disco''s great moments, as is I''m So Excited. Throughout the album, which only has one slow number, Easy Persuasion, that isn''t all that slow, even, synthesisers dominate the sound, unmistakably of the early 80s. The voices of the Pointer Sisters are a perfect blend, arabica with a hint of robusta in Ruth, maybe. I''m not sure some of their other albums aren''t even better (Hot Together, Serious Slammin''), but this one is at the centre of the disco solar system; the sounds, cover design, outfits and letters even all take you straight back to what was wonderful about that era.

1984, disco beats a plenty - reenter the Pointer Sisters with an album that sold trillions in the USA a few months before it was released here in the UK, First single Automatic, ripped up the charts and held it''s ground at No.2 for many weeks, and well deserved to too, this single still gets a crowd on the dance floor, and was one of the first singles to use voice vocoda''s and echo''s. The next single Jump, which was recently murdered by Girls Aloud was also a huge Top 10 hit here as was I''m So Excited. Other hits here are Baby Come And Get It, Neutron Dance and I Need You. 24 years on this album still sounds fresh, and shows how a real girl group can hold everything together with perfect harmonising. Absolutely fantastic - the album sold millions here in the UK, and was massive worldwide. Unfortunately June Pointer passed away a couple of years ago but her voice remains on my stereo time and time again, and if you can try and get a copy of June''s solo album. The girls here could put any modern day girl group too shame and out sing any artist on the live circuit anywhere. Top Marks.
